Derek's New Car
I know I should have posted this like 2 months ago, but Derek bought a new (new to us) car. He has always dreamed of owning a 1986 Chevy Camaro Z28. We had been looking for a second car for a few weeks and were getting kind of discouraged because we weren't finding ANY car that ran well in our price range. We just weren't getting a good feeling about any of the cars we looked at. We had almost given up hope when one day while driving to another job site, Derek drove past this little beauty. He instantly fell in love with it. The guy wanted $1000 more than we could come up with, but we came down in price $800 because we were willing to pay cash for it. How could I say no to his dream car. Well, actually, he just came in and read what I had written so far, and corrected me that his dream was for that body style. Whatever, it's all the same to me. I am a girl who only cares about my vehicle running well. I don't care what make, or model it is, or even what color. I just ask that it run well and not leave me on the side of the road. Well, actually for almost the last year, all I really have asked for is a car. ANY car. Not having one and being stuck at home has made me appreciate my car so much more. And now.... on to the pictures. These are from tonight. I am soaking in that Derek is getting an extra night off during the week. Which means less money, but we love having him around more. Not sure if it will stay like that. Okay, now REALLY on to the pictures.

You really have to see amazing car in person to appreciate the paint job. It sparkles. No joke. It has flecks in the paint. So when you look at it in the sun, it just shines!

Funny story: Derek got pulled over the other morning for the first time in this car. He said he keeps passing our city cops and he just kept feeling like they really wanted to pull him over. He's been saying that for weeks now. Once he forgot to grab something from home, turned around and got it, then went to the grocery store and on his way back, passed the same cop for the fourth time. The cop pulled out after him and followed him to the house, but he didn't pull him over. Well, the other day, 2 blocks after pulling away from our house, a cop finally pulled him over. The officer accused him of going 45mph in a 25, and doing a rolling stop. He only gave him a warning. First, there's no way in two blocks, separated by a yield sign, which he did yield, could he have gotten up to 45 miles an hour. And if he was going 45 in a 25, the officer, surely would have written him a ticket. Then Derek said that he HAD to stop at the stop sign because a car was coming. He would have hit the car if he had rolled through the stop. But, Derek was trying to be nice to the officer and not argue with him. Derek almost never gets warnings, he always seems to get tickets. I was pretty upset when he called and told me he had been pulled over, because he hasn't had a ticket in two and a half years. His record is clean for the first time since I met him! Thank heavens he didn't get a ticket. But we did talk about him slowing it down and making sure he's driving nicely because we don't want to give the police any extra reason to pull him over.

Yep. That's our old, running great, 1973 motor home in the background.
Aren't they so sweet together? Love ya Babe!

It's something about red sports cars that gets ya pulled over...my dad had a corvette that he'd get pulled over in a lot, and I had a Nissan Z that I would too.
I love the sparkly paint though, my dad had that on the vette. That's neat that he gets his dream car! Hope it works great for a long time. :)
That is REALLY awesome! I love that you were able to talk him down a whopping $800 just because you were willing to pay cold hard cash! AMAZING! The car is so beautiful!
Ok and by the way, I used to have a little red sports car (it was older at the time but it was still a little red sports car) anyway, my mom used to always warn me that cops actually look for red cars more than other cars. I got pulled over more in that car than I ever have been pulled over in any other car. It's real, red is catchy and they assume too quickly so do be careful. P.S. I always got warnings until 3 years ago when I got pulled over in my mini van two times in three months, no sympathy from the officers this time either and they both gave me tickets. Crooks! (sorry for the super huge giant run on sentence).
